Thanksgiving Part duex
So, I just came back from my thanksgiving dinner/lunch provided by my company. They know that us foreigners get homesick for western food, so they feed us a couple of times a year, and Thanksgiving is the best... its not quite homemade, but hey, its free. I just learned that they got the food from the military base, so its the same food the soldiers stationed here eat... Im glad I'm not a soldier stationed abroad... I can choose to go home when ever I want and eat much better food than they are forced to eat.
Thats a picture of the food that was offered... not my plate as you can tell from the turkey! but there were veggies, mashed potatoes, stuffing, turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and jolly ranchers! hehe, not bad.
Im sitting here listening to npr and Im thinking... damn, I am so happy I don't live in Mumbai right now... even if your not one of the 80 people killed or 200 people wounded, or one of their family members... you must still feel terrible today. I mean, some group of seriously misguided people are just attacking Indian people for no good reason... killing and hurting people they don't even know. Days like today I am especially thankful for the wonderful life I have been given and I certainly don't think I deserve this gift anymore than anyone else, its not fair that I'm so lucky. Of course, here is the moment that I beg people to do something, even if it is a small something to try and ease the difficulties in another person's life... even something a small as a smile or accepting who they are... even if you don't like who they are... Also, remember organizations like kiva.org where you can loan money to people in poor communities who are trying to improve their lives so their children can be luckier than they were. We all have the power to make our world a better place, but we cannot wish it into being... Be the change you want to see in the world... I am thankful for the internet, so I can ramble on and on, and even if no one is listening I still feel like I am heard.
Happy Thanksgiving, enjoy your food and friendship and family today!
